Brunelleschi’s Dome – FAQ
1. How many steps are there to climb the Dome?
There are approximately 463 steps to reach the top. There is no elevator.
2. Is the climb difficult? Is it suitable for everyone?
The ascent includes steep and narrow passages in certain sections. It is not recommended for visitors who suffer from claustrophobia, vertigo, heart conditions, or limited mobility. Comfortable shoes and water are strongly advised.
3. How long does the visit take?
The experience typically lasts 45–60 minutes, depending on visitor flow.
4. Are the Cathedral, Dome, and Bell Tower included in the same ticket?
The Opera del Duomo generally offers combined tickets that include multiple monuments, such as Brunelleschi’s Dome, Giotto’s Bell Tower, the Baptistery, and the Opera del Duomo Museum.
The Cathedral interior is often free to enter, but access to the Dome and Bell Tower requires a ticket.
5. Is a reservation required?

2. Is it easier than the Dome?
Many visitors find it less strenuous because the climb is divided into multiple levels, there are platforms to rest, and there are no narrow internal passages.
3. How long does the visit take?
On average, 30–45 minutes.
4. Is the view as beautiful as the Dome?
The view is different but equally impressive. From the Bell Tower, you can admire Brunelleschi’s Dome itself, which is not visible when standing on top of it.

1. Where can I buy tickets?
Tickets can be purchased on the official website of the Opera del Duomo or at on-site ticket offices. Online booking is strongly recommended, especially for the Dome.
